Indisputably, Iyso has a style that is uniquely his own. His impacting, life changing lyrics combined with his high energy stage presence makes it inevitable for both your eyes and heart to be captured as he ministers.
Born Dail M. Smith in Philadelphia, Iyso was raised in a Christ centered home. It was at the age of 14 that Iyso began to develop a relationship with Jesus Christ. It was then that he recognized his sin and his need for salvation. At 18 though, he began to get more involved in his local church and ministry as a whole by attending bible study regularly and ushering. During this time, he started to develop a heart for the lost, and was no longer content with mediocre Christianity. He wanted more…
In addition to Iyso, six other young men began to experience the burden of doing more for Christ. As they grew in their love for the Lord together, the immediate fruit was the desire to share the gospel with others. Since rap was something they all enjoyed, they decided to use it as a vehicle to reach the world. They formed a group called “Da Union” and began to boldly proclaim the good news wherever they went. This was the beginning to the ministry Iyso would embark on. Iyso still belongs to Da Union even though he is working on a solo project.
Iyso blesses God for the opportunity to serve in ministry. He is humbled as well as grateful that God would use him for the purpose of making Jesus Christ known to others. Just like Jesus, Iyso is zealous about “seeking and saving the lost,” Luke 10:19. He looks forward to God expanding his ministry outside of the four walls of the church into the places others may not be willing to go. Iyso is ready to go wherever God takes him without shame, with power and love to share His message. “I’ma to do whatever it takes… grind time,” Iyso says. And surely because of his willing heart God will use him… greatly. “Don’t see me, but Christ through me,” is a continual plea he makes before those who witness his ministry. He understands that we live for one single purpose, and that is to glorify our creator and Lord Jesus Christ. Iyso is excited about the satisfaction that he is beginning to find in Christ as he learns of him more intimately. This lead to the debut album title, Satisfied.
Ultimately, his prayer is that the world would come to know Christ and believe: Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were STILL SINNERS, Christ died for us.”
