Why Are We Fighting Saints?

Do you not realize a divided house cannot stand?

The gospel is big enough to encompass the likes of a Shai Linne, a Lecrae or a K-Drama. We should be satisfied our brethren choose to use God's gifts. This debate has been going on or sometime within music in the general sense. Lyrics or lyrics beats. It comes down to personal choice, neither is better than the other. Some people will not be receptive to music without a banging beat others won't listen if the lyrics are Waco. What's more important is whether the LORD's work is being done. Why argue over the medium. shai has obviously found his niche in the game, he prefers this style of rap. Others like different sound. But when it comes down whether it's a piano sample or that boom-bap does it matter so long as Christ prevails? - introspekt757

Bangers

I personally am sick of "bangers". How many times can I hear the same cookie cutter 808 krunk beat pattern (with the unrealistic running hi hat and running 808 snare at the end of the loop). I've heard a lot of the Christian Krunk and find it sorta boring. Much of it seems to dumb the gospel down and the beats remind me more of a pole dance at the strip club than truth. I dont need hype and dont need a christian copy of Lil Wayne. I like originality and creativity. My 2 cents - Ant Man

shai linne- quick review prt.2-

I've had this CD since Friday, so I've listened to a few times. The tracked listed "11. I’m The One" is not on this CD. Still It's more than sixteen tracks, 'cause although there's not really a musically track on "1. Intro" or "4. Wake Up Unveiled" (which is really number 15, called "Wake Up, Revealed.). "As The Hour Draws Near" has 3 tracks (different artist, different beats) and Martyrs had live 5 tracks (including a banger by Techniq (if Techniq is the female one.) "Work It Out" may sound sexist, esp since shai didn't mention what the husband was suppose to do for the wife. "Letter from the Grave" is extremely sad and brings face to face with reality. "Wake Up, You’re Alive" has a unique beat, and it's one of those rear tracks when shai doesn't meantion God directly. (Note: earlier when I said "good beats, not great." great does not banger. shai linne had some great non-banger on the atonement. ) - M. Immanuel

I like shai linne's storiez, but it's not for everyone. Lyricial, it's wonderful. All the beats are good, but none of them are great. A lot of slow beat. A lot of interesting ideas as well. Like, he tell's a children story and stories about people who died for the faith. There are no real banger. I like high priest the best. It's more than sixteen tracks. Watch out the guest artists too, they're really shown off (except for a wasted Flame on "the Greatest Story ever".) The narrator voice is kinda boring and the stopping of beats mid-song is kinda annoying. Lyrical and concept wise, it shines.
But I like it a lot, but I don't need bangers as long as he's repppin' my God. - M. Immanuel

that's exactly my point...a lot of kats that i know that are really into the culture of hip-hop (graf writers and b-boys), not just rap music, would not be able to get into Lecrae because of the commercial production.

that's why it's dope to have strong representation on all fronts javascript;D - esso

You don't know who esso is do you? He probably heard Lecrea's production on Rebel way before we even heard Rebel was coming out..

shai linne just need to bring the lyrical Theology. There is alot of christian artists I can share with my acquaintances who aren't in Christ. But we need to go from Milk to Meat baby!! shai's music makes you get into the word man..!! - j-mya

Have you heard the production on Lecrae's Rebel album? It's easily comparable to a lot of mainstream secular production. And so was the artistry for the most part. Now CM on the other hand is a different story. But check out Rebel and give you secular friends a listen. - thelonereviewer

commercial vs. undergroun

i think that preference needs to be remembered here.

some prefer "hot", commercial beats. they aren't better than underground, gritty ones - just different. it's funny because, secular friends of mine in the hip-hop world i wouldn't give lecrae or CM to because they wouldn't like the production/artistry, so it really goes both ways.

it's dope that we have people representing all the nuances of the genre, which is what glorifies the LORD...getting maximum representation for His glory! - esso

I love his album the atonement, it may not be for secular folks. But it is the meat we mature christians need in the sea of baby food that a lot of christian rappers are sharing.8) - DJ Master Chill

Why can't he do Both!Flame can get down wit Scripture and Beats.Crae does it and so does some others. His lyrics have great depth, but not the total Package.Hook'em wit tight Beatz,Reel'em in wit hot Hooks, and Teach'em the Gospel! If I can't knock it in my Car,than I can't Knock It! - ChristMatic

ChristMatic, I'm pretty sure shai linne and you define "depth" differently. shai linne can make greats beats and hooks (track 15 on Flame's OWR was composed by him), but I believe he's more concern about eternal things. Bryce B is right, you can find a ton of Christian artists with bangin' beats. If shai linne makes album full of great beats, but not much lyrical theology, than it would be a major letdown. - M.
