Since Christian hip hop's inception, the lack of quality has been commented on by Christians and non Christians alike. I have been involved in Christian hip hop for the last 10 years, and the complaints remain the same. Mark LaFay, one of my best friends, and manager to Christian bands Haste The Day, Gwen Stacy, etc., turned me onto Christian hip hop for the first time back in 2000. The first taste of Christian hip hop I got was John Reuben's song "Do Not" and Mars iLL's album 'Raw Material'. After listening to these samples and then searching out other releases in Christian hip hop, I soon found out that those were the exception and not the norm. The poor quality and blatant copying of popular secular hip hop has been a common topic over the years, but we can save it for another time. I will transition out of this intro on a good note though, and say that I definitely have seen great improvements sonically. In this article, I want to focus on the design and packaging of Christian hip hop products.

A sexually suggestive billboard for T.I.'s Akoo clothing company has drawn controversy nationwide.
The billboard is located in the heart of Newark. T.I.'s clothing line has posted a billboard in the heart of Newark that is definitely risque. The billboard ad shows a man standing with his pants unzipped and open, her head just under his crotch. Her right hand between his legs reaching upward and grabbing on the back of his pants exposing part of his underwear. Her other hand pulling on his front pocket. His hand is holding the back of her head.

A common question if you run a website is "how much traffic des your website get?". We want to thank DaSouth.com for taking the a step in the right direction of providing transparency in regards to web analytics. Their article 'How much traffic does DaSouth.com get globally? Take a look!' really put into motion something that we have always talked about and wanted to do, which was be transparent with our website analytics. DaSouth's article talks about how they nearly have the entire globe covered with regards to traffic. While they offer a visual via a screen shot from their Google Analytics showing their reach (shades of green) across the globe, it also displays where they are not currently receiving traffic from (tan), which is great!

Ever had one of those days where everything’s going your way? Then outta no where it’s like everything gets rearranged. It’s kinda like that feeling you get when you bite into a piece of pineapple expecting it to be sweet and then it’s bitter. I mean…yuck! The feelings horrible. You feel disappointed, robbed, violated. It’s just not cool. The pineapple was supposed to be sweat man. What’s up with that? What happened? Circumstances happened. That’s what happened. |

Can beats be evil? Normally, when I am confronted with a ridiculous argument, I take a step back and really consider if I want to put my time and energy into refuting it. Sometimes I take it on, sometimes I let it be; usually depending on if the challenger is capable of a logical discussion. But, as a Christian, a musician, and a thinker, I believe it is extremely important to really dig deep and analyze questions like this (as silly as it may seem). |

My three-year-old daughter is obsessed with bubbles. Since it’s been warmer out as of recent, she’s traded in Dora the Explorer On Demand for the great outdoors. She even has a machine that blows massive amounts of bubbles, so she and the machine work together to ensure our small lot is a bubble extravaganza. Yesterday she was so engulfed in the whole experience that I was able take a few moments to pick up a bit around the “yard.” It’s hardly a yard, and more like a greenish brown postage stamp with litter on it. |

Some know him as a common thief; a liar and back-stabber. Others remember him by his infamous and ever-so-expensive property vandalism. Women of his past acknowledge him as a creep, only good for a one-night stand. Old friends call him a shady drug addict while local pawn shop owners still share that same common question “Where did he get all that stuff?” You however, may know him as an industry audio engineer, networking guru, video blogger, rapper and Founder/Producer of Beat Lab 7 Productionz. The story of Matthew James Slyman aka “Crucial” is one that will truly prove the miraculous workings of a great, mighty and sovereign God…
So are we going to get into the entire story? |
