Buy the CD Is there a love for thugs? Well, if you want to know, all you have to do is pick up a copy of “Thug Love,” the latest offering from the dirty south rapper hailing from Jacksonville, Florida – Petitidee. DUVAL COUNTY, BABY! What y’all know about Sandalwood High School? (I went there for quarter in the 11th grade. LOL).

Anyway, the first half of this year could definitely be called “The Year of Beatmart” because this album makes the third release from the label this year. And just like the ones before it, “Thug Love” is worth its weight in gold.

It seems like the new thing for albums today is to come up with some kind of creative intro, but Pettidee skips all of that and just start hitting you hard with the bass heavy track “Glide Aside.” Yeah, I feel’em on this one. There is no need for an intro when you can come out the gate right from the jump!

And as if that wasn’t enough, you are given a dirty south uppercut with “Stepped On.” The thing I like about this song is the hook! The part I really like about it is when he says “I’m in my ice whites – I’m in my ice whites – I’m in my ice whites – I’m in my ice whites.” You have to hear it to know what I’m talking about. Trust me, it’s hot! He’s talking about bling, but not the kind of bling you wear on the wrist, but the light of God in him. Yeah, he still blings though! Have you seen the album cover???! My Lord!

Okay, I gotta keep runnin’ down the line! The third track is “Don’t Stop.” I can see a video to this one (Yes, I always have to say which ones I see as video worthy in my reviews – GET USED TO IT!) LOL! This song is one of the hottest on the album. And that’s an understatement with so much heat on this project. Will you ever stop serving the Lord? Nah! Don’t stop! Unfortunately, I have no album credits, because I’d like to know who produced this track. It’s hot fo sho! I wouldn’t doubt if it was Todd “TC” Collins. Whoever you are, you did your thing.

I generally don’t just go track for track like this, but when an album is hot like this one, it kind of makes it hard not to touch on each song. Hey, but if I skip to another song on this review, that doesn’t mean a song wasn’t hot. I gotta leave something to your imagination now! Nevertheless, the next song is “Never Give Up.” Why are you in your ministry, and why do you do what you do? Well, remember, it’s not about you, but about those who will be blessed and benefited by your ministry. That’s what Pettidee talks about on this track. It’s encouraging. I feel where he’s coming from on this one. Peep the hook:

As long as these trials keep making me better
As long as these fans and these inmates keep writing me letters
All you snakes and vipers blocking my cheddar
You cut my skin you just making me leather
Dawg – it’s whatever!

That’s what’s up right thurr!

Okay, let me leave some things to your imagination and move on. Trust me, I’m skipping over some hot tracks.

I love catchy hooks. I really do. I must be transparent. LOL. Nah, it ain’t that deep. Anyway, the song “Huh Man” is a tight track addressing them guys living the “thug life.” They think they’re hard, but you aren’t anything if you don’t know the Lord. You can’t match up. Judgment day is coming. So, better get things right before it’s too late. Not only that, many of them turn to the Lord when they get in a tight spot (sounds familiar), but then want to turn their back on the Lord when things pan out their way. Yo, don’t play with God. Satan’s out there waiting for you.

Lastly, I’ll touch on “Learn To Let Go.” This track really showed where Pettidee’s heart is. He’s in it for the right reasons. It’s not about the money or the fame or anything like that. He talks about how he tried to commit suicide twice, but it didn’t work. The whole project is great, but on this one he talks to you at the end and pours out his heart – one on one.

Pettidee, if you’re reading this bro. I believe in your ministry, man. “Learn to Let Go” really blessed me bro. Your story reminds me a lot of my own. Stay encouraged and keep on keepin’ on.

Cop the album!
