"Obama Wins!" "Things are Changing!" "Yes, We Can!" / But in God I put my trust, and not man / Gonna hold onto my God's unchanging hand / As he, as he leads me along" – "Yes We Can" (Tre9)

While the nation is justifiably excited about the inauguration of the first African-American President of the United States, gospel rapper Tre9 cautions that Barack Obama is simply a man – not a Messiah.

ImageIn "Yes We Can," a song recorded exclusively for the Beat Lab 7's free, downloadable "Music Meets the Truth 2009" album, Bobby "Tre9" Herring presents an argument for limited support of elected officials.

"We have to remember politicians are men who fall short of God's glory, just like everyone else. And far too often, their words don't match their actions, and our expectations go unfulfilled," Herring said.

"It's especially important that Christian voters and politicians hold themselves to higher standards and value their heavenly citizenship over their national one."

And despite the title chant and "Abomination, disregard Obama-nation" line (a phrase he remembered from a photo of a protest sign at a gay-rights rally), Tre9 says this is not an anti-Barack track or partisan in any way. It's simply a Christian song about modern government in the vein of Derek Webb's "A Savior On Capitol Hill."

"It's definitely more political than anything I've ever put on wax," Tre9 said. "But it's an honest expression of thoughts and feelings that have been marinating inside of me for several years. I hope people can really see where I'm coming from on this."

Tre9's next album, "The Farmer," is being distributed by Infinity/Central South and hits stores on March 31, 2009. Available for pre-order at Qualityjunk.com

Apologize?
written by Nate G, January 30, 2009
We should never apologize for standing
up for the things of God even if
at times that means disagreeing with our
elected officials (which i believe we will be doing a a lot more now).

We are not Blacks, Whites, or any other color.

We are Americans but above all

We are blessed....

blessed to be call the Children of God by the life that Christ laid down for us!
Your welcome

M. Emmanual,

You are welcome, and thank you for comment. I was relieved when I wrote that song. So much was bottled up inside me and I had to let it out.

Much Luvv,

Tre9

M Immanuel: Preach that bro!!! I am excited about the historic aspect of Obama's presidency, but he is just a man. I know that he is flawed. All presidents are flawed! People better know that he is not God, and we as Christians have to step up and pray and help change the world. We(me first), have to be disciple and go out and make disciples. We also cannot let our choices for president divide us as believers. We cant. I applaud Tre-9 for the track because he was not bashing Obama. He was putting things in the right perspective.
My bad...

The importance of TRUTH
written by CRUCIAL, January 20, 2009
With all of the over extended "Obama hype" right now I think it's important to reveal these necessary "truths" about the depravity of ALL MEN, even Obama. Otherwise, we as Christians (who are supposed to trust in God the Father, not man) will find ourselves caught up in esteeming this mere man as someone much greater than he actually is. This can be harmful to our faith, as we are to rely solely on our Father for provision, protection, peace, restoration, and a stronger nation altogether.

We have to remember that we live in a "media-driven" society. Half of what we find ourselves believing come straight from the television, newspapers and magazines. The media shows us what they want us to believe. We contribute all of the "greatness" to Barack Obama, yet I have to ask myself this sobering question: "What has he done so far?"

I mean really, let's think about this: We contribute "greatness" to Martin Luther King, not because he SET OUT to establish equality among all men, but b/c he actually DID establish that equality. We contribute "greatness" to our war heroes, not b/c they "SET OUT" to go to war, but b/c they came back as men who fought hard and accomplished many great things, including saving lives, on the battlefield.

Well so far we have extended all of this "greatness" to Obama like he's already conquered the battle; or he's already accomplished what he's SET OUT to do. When in total reality, this man hasn't done anything yet. Yet b/c the media (news reports, biased articles, Hollywood rallies and so forth) has hyped him up so much, we are finding ourselves esteeming this man as a man who has already conquered every single economical issue that our country is facing right now.

Isn't that how we should be esteeming our Father in Heaven? Knowing that all things are all ready taken care of by HIM??

Regardless of who becomes the leader of this nation, it is our Christian duty to support them. But there is nowhere in scripture where our Lord tells us to put our complete trust and confidence in this man (see Psalms 118:8-9). It's a sobering reality...
God above all

I completely agree with M. Immanuel and Tre9. This is a very exciting time in the USA (I write this as Obama is being sworn in). Regardless, I am keeping my loyalties to God first and only looking to Him for salvation, peace and purpose. I also agree this track and album are great and easily worth the free download. Praise God and keep your eyes on Him!
Great Track! Not anti-Obama, but pro-God!
written by M. Immanuel, January 20, 2009
Man, I just downloaded this album last night, so I just heard this track. (Great track! Awesome album. If you haven't, you may wanna download this.) No, the track is NOT anti-Obama. It's pro-God. I live in the south of the south, so most of my blacks friends voted for Obama and most of white friends voted for McCain. (As a matter of fact, there was a big blow-out out my college the night Obama became the president-elect, but that's another story all together) And now people have all their hopes in Obama. But people, everyone falls and fails sometimes. Except for God! You can place your trust in politicians, but it would be better if you placed all your trust in God. He runs this show.

"It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man." Psalms 118:8

"It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes. "Psalms 118:9

Thanks Tre9 for the track. I realize Crucial and s.a.i.n.t. jon had you artists be a little, uh, out-spoken for this album, but I was glad for the power of messages! (I'm not saying all of you artists should change y'all styles at, but I'm enjoying MMT2009)
