In quite all honestly, I have never been a big fan of John Reuben but then again a never gave his music a “hard” listen either. I’m not sure whether to classify John Reuben as Christian alternative or rap; he walks that line with his music, like some other notable artists (i.e. Toby Mac).

Well, lets get into this: Cool the underdog – is a track which basically stresses that one should not be focused on personal attainment or accolades.; Curiosity – speaks to man’s need to find something to fulfill him and the myriad of choices available to mankind.; Focus – seems to talk about how various things vie for our attention causing us to become lazy rather than focused.; Good evening – this track seems to be the mandatory party joint of the album and speaks to the desire of people to paint a nice ending, even if they are just faking it.; Make Money Money – in this song Reuben highlights the endeavors of men trying to pursue a living.; Miserable Exaggeration – this track speaks of the struggle of pride.; Sing It Like You Mean It – seems to be a message to not just talk about your dreams but act as if they are reality.; Trying Too Hard – this song appears to be giving a message to people who are trying to be something/someone they shouldn’t and should just slow their role.; Universal – this track highlights the need to take a “universal” approach and look beyond the present circumstances.; Word of Mouth – this song basically goes into the fact that there is nothing new under the sun.

Overall, the album is has a good vibe as far as it’s actually sound. Musically and sonically it is a good album, but the album seemed to lack a clear message. The album takes some biblical concepts but to the average listener it would be hard to interpret them. If you are looking for a album to challenge you theologically then this is not the album for you but if you are looking for a good album to vibe and chill out to then this would be a good cop.

What happened to the John Reuben I heard 10 years ago at Cornerstorne Christian Music Festival, IN?
written by Retro, April 19, 2008
The first time I heard John Reuben was in a tent at Cornerstone in Indiana. He had no mic, no contract, no t-shirts. In fact, he was rap - battling some other guy and it blew my mind. I could not believe the talent John had. I knew he was going places, but little did I know that he'd forget where he came from and become another 'pop' artist. The kids of today need the John of yesterday. Kids need to hear Jesus preached. Not rubbish songs that sound like everyone elses songs. John - if you ever read this.. no offense man, but I liked the 'you' before you got big. I live in England, and there is a massive hip hop culture here.. even bigger than Detroit,MI... the kids need to hear Jesus on a level they can understand. Not flouncy, puffy, rainbow pop stuff. Love ya bro. Just think you compromised what you once stood for.

Sometimes I think "Christian Music" means you don't swear! Well...That's what I thought when my 2 choices were Jordan Sparks and John Reuben. To be quite honest, they both could be played on the same station. The world doesn't need another passive Christian musician. I never even heard the name "Jesus" on this whole album. I'm trying to ween my wife off of secular music and this isn't helping.

Thanks for waisting my money John!!!

Ok, so I completely disagree with the guy who commented on this already. John's at least being creative and coming up with his own sound, as opposed to a LARGE handful of the top "HHH" artists. And I disagree with the reviewer that there's not a really clear message. But, then again, this reviewer is probably a CMR/Lampmode head and might not accept something outside of that vein.

John Rueben, what is his dippety-doin'? With a single spin of this disc, I figured out the answer: nothing. This album doesn't deserve 3.5 stars. I actually feel that we should remove stars from his previous albums as a punishment for this album.

Rue is a pretty chill guy. His music is not. Spend your $10 to take John out for coffee next time he's in your town. You'll enjoy it way more.
