I think Mars ILL deserved this award. KJ's good but manchild's a far better MC.

I don't feel KJ-52 at all. Few kats i like triplee, kdrama and grits.

See KJ-52 is one of the guys who help me make it through some hard times in my life and inspired me to rap, and got saved, which i'm a big fan of KJ, and the album The Year Book was his best one yet, cause of the sounds and effect,as he polymerized that with his humor.... peace out

I am impressed with his production quality and sound. He has a great marketing strategy and at least his lyrics are popular.
That being said, I like a lot of folks did not have my favorite (Tint Man) even nominated.
So let's all join GMA and educate them on Christian Rap and what/who is out there.
Again, marketing wise and sales wise, I think KJ52 probably should have one.

I think people need to stop hating on KJ - 52. I have some of his albums. 7th Ave, Collab., Remixed, & The Yearbook. I think 7th Ave was the best lyrically. Remixed was his best album and The Yearbook had some nice beats and effects. Those albums I mentioned from him are worth buying. He is preety funny too (like on fivetweezy) even though I thought the "mullet song" was stupid and so was "You Hang Up First" from his new album. However I was Introduced to CMR first. In my opinion all the artists signed with Cross Movement Records, Reach Records, and Lampmode are better than him. They picked him so there is nothing that can be done. He is good anyway. From Kj-52 I would definetly reccomend 7th Avenue ( his debut cd). It's real good. I have the 04 edition. Lyrically Excellent.

This very interesting. I give much respect to KJ-52. He has some good stuff. However I truly felt that Lecrae album is better hands down. If you were to take this stuff to secular radio stations Lecrae's album we get a whole lot of air time. Well it is what it is. Don't know how they judge the music or who decides to when but Lecrae is way better.

I can care less what KJ wins. I sure hope that Jesus doesn't determine what this young man deserves by reading some of the remarks of this blog... shameful to tell the truth. God only will know what he has given KJ, how much of it he used and what he used it for. As far as I can tell, he is reaching the hearts and souls of many... congratulations for the award, but in Heaven, I'm sure you'll be more appreciated when you receive your reward.

Ups to KJ-52 but with ALL the heat that was released I find the same names nominated every year. GMA still seems to be out of touch with reality and what's really bomb. Was your fav artist even nominated? Think about it.

Some good points were brought up here. Sure maybe Lecrae should have been shown more respect as a possible candidate. But we're trying to promote christian music regardless. Lecrae said it himself while quoting john 3:30. We need to hold Jesus up not ourselves or artists. Crongrats to KJ hes doing his thing for the Lord and getting recognized for it. But we need to support our christian artists and not hate and complain. The votes have been cast and all we can do is enjoy quality music from both KJ and Lecrae.

I'm a big fan of Da'Truth & Crossmovement and Lecrae & the Reach Records fam, as well as, Grits, Pettidee, Flavor Alliance, and Rawsrvnt. Certainly they've earned their right in the market but not too many rappers have opened the doors to the Christian HipHop/Gospel Rap to a broader audience as KJ-52.

A lot of people want to criticize the controversial rapper, but in the end he just searched for a market that will receive him and give him longevity in the industry. This was his career choice long ago in the mid-90s and he stuck it out until something happened.

I remember the days in Tampa Bay, FL when he was trying to get any gig he could and rock the mic with his boy Golden Child in their indie group Sons Of Intellect. They did the smallest gigs with little to no compensation. Truth be known, they had the best mic skills and mediocre production, and no one wanted to buy their stuff. KJ-52 had to do something to make a living. I bet some rappers choose to work at a Vons, Winn-Dixie, ShopRite or a Piggly Wiggly to make a buck. At least this cat spits Jesus tracks without shame. And he had VH-1 rip on him (best promotion ever). The boy stayed true to the GOSPEL and delivered it in diverse ways.

Is KJ still hip hop? Or is he just pop? I feel once hip hop always hip hop (industry or ministry). He just has more resources of the best talent in the CCM market to take him to other levels. You need to listen to all of his tracks and not just the radio and concert hits. His still got skills. And not too many can freestyle like him either.

KJ is a great talent with creative ways to express himself and entertain a forgotten age group (the tweens). They love him cause he's goofy. Once they get his album, the music works the soul and opens the hearts, then that's when Jesus works.

Oh, and by the way, I love "The Mullet Song". I used to rock one.

I stopped listening to him because he was more positive than Christian
and when he put Eminem out there-that was bad
but the biggest thing is that
that cd won't lead anyone to Christ
but this award is about who sounds the best
and he sounded the best
oh and there is a massive difference between rap and hip-hop
hip-hop is one of the worst art forms ever made
long story short
hip-hop was started when KRS-one wanted to teach the youth of america about how the black man was god and this religion called the five percenters
almost like satanism it is about self worship
well this spirit named hip-hop came to him and told him how to teach it
hip-hop is acutually a registered religion

the problem is the voting and the voters. When voting for the hip hop category at the GMA should be a committe that is made up of people involved in holy hip hop. They should be the ones who vote for the best hip hop artist, song, and so on.

Personally, I think KJ-52 is talented but does not understand what he is supposed to be as a christian rapper. I job is to take the Bible and his relationship with God and translate that I a message that the hip hop fan can understand and apprciate.

In all honestly, I think Lecrae should have got it, however it does matter who gets the hip hop award it is about the award in Heaven.

There are some politics involved at the GMA's just like the Grammy's or Oscars. To me only rap/hip-hop should be in this category. I would like to see LaCrae win CCM or some category he should not be in. These are mostly older people who vote for who their kids like. They have no idea of what Hip-Hop/Rap is. This is nothing against Kj-52, but look at Dove history. They vote based on what name they here. You have to campaign for this and also it takes the fans joing the GMA and then you can vote. We can't sit back and complain, get involved and make change. If not, it'll be the same from this point on. At least it was Kj-52 and his is an emcee. The wonderful thing about rap is that is was never intended to stay in one form accroding to Grand Master Flash (if you don't know who he is-do some research). Him and DJ Kool Herc Never intended for it to be just in the inner city. They wanted it to be mixed with all kinds of music and eventually be known throughout the world. Don't just complain, get involved and make change...

I must admit, KJ's remix album is pretty good. I'm not even a big fan of his. Lecrae should have got best album and best song.

I'm surprised that he got "Song of the Year." I would've thought Lecrae got that one. But I thought he would get "Album of the Year."

their are lyrical geniouses like sintax and playdough.... and no one in the general public has EVER heard of them and kj who all he raps about mountain dew adn abstinance and the fact that no one can say his name wins a DOVE AWARD.... whats worng with this...

In regards to Brett Friesen, I just want to address that there is a clear distinction between pop and rap. I agree that alot of songs from previous albums had that pop flavor to it, but you gotta give "The Yearbook" a chance. KJ had never before done all the production of his own album since 7th Ave...so you'd be missing out seriously if you didn't get this one just because of your own biases against him. This certainly is his best album to date.

I dont know how he won it for a remix album..that makes me kinda mad cuz lecrae deserves best album and lecrae or Manafest deserve best song...I would barely even classify KJ-52 as being a rapper since the 7th Avenue cd...more like pop music that rhymes...kinda like Toby Mac
