Hip-hop godfather T-Bone brings almost 20 years of cred along with him, although this hits compilation covers only the last six years, relying heavily on his last three albums (all Flicker. A coincidence, I’m sure). Still, the versatility of Bone-Appetit! clearly explains the rapper’s longevity, and will serve as a good introduction to those arriving late to the hip-hop party.

Grammy-nominated Last Street Preacha, Bone-A-Fide, and the horrifically-titled Gospelalphamegafunkyboogiediscomusic are all well represented, and also included are fan favorites, the jammin’ “Raised in Harlem,” thick with guitar riffs, and standout worship track, the moving Latin-influenced “King of My Life,” featuring Natalie LaRue.

Previously heard tracks include hard-livin’ raps like straight-up “I Been Lookin’ Around” and “Let That Tang Go,” laying down the ugly truths of the current hip-hop scene. Tech-groove track “Ride Wit’ Me” serves up a wild hook, and “Wipe Your Tears” spits tongue-tripping lyrics with an old-school R&B groove to offer up some Christ-centered comfort. “Shake Ya Body” is a rapid-fire mix of crunk and clever metaphor.

As much brains as muscle, T-Bone’s bodacious humor shows through on new track, “Pentecostal Horse Racing,” on which he welcomes you to the “beautiful Bible Belt right here in Tulsa Oklahoma” for the “31st annual Pentecostal Horseracing Extravaganza,” all in a nasal Howard Cosell-like announcer’s voice. Things go quickly from light-hearted to rip-roarin’ as Steven Curtis Chapman makes his way through the crowd “with his 2-time winning horse, ‘Shoulda-bought-a-Hyundai-but-I-got-a-Mitsubishi.’ You get the idea: lots of name-droppin’ fun at the expense of popular music stars. And the hilarity continues on the follow-up track, “Name Droppin’,” showcasing his lyrical dexterity while riling through a long list of Christian artists, past and present. These two tracks alone are worth the price of admission.

T-Bone is joined by some secular artists who might raise some hackles: KSR-One gives a fierce performance on “GospelAlphaMegaFunkyBoogieDiscoMusic,” and Mack 10 signs on for “A Few Good men.” Nirva joins T-Bone for the brilliant duet from Hero: the Rock Opera, “Raised in Harlem.” But my favorite collaboration was with Natalie LaRue and Mark Stuart on the Caribbean/Latin sizzler that is “Sing Your Praises.” Its vibrant salsa-worship will stay on my own iPod for quite a while, I’m sure. New fnas and old will find much to appreciate on T-Bone’s Bone-Appetit!

I've never heard anybody mention KRS-One in the same sentence as rap about "bling and rims and cars." If anything, the blastmaster is the epitome of anti-bling hip hop - listen to "Love's Gonna Getcha."

As for T-bone, isn't this his 3rd "Greatest Hits" collection? (I believe this one doesn't cover his earlier Das EFX & Cypress Hill biting songs, only his later Tupac, Snoop & Lil' Jon biting songs).

He is talented, and can do tons of different styles extremely well. However, I do struggle with how T-bone continually chooses to imitate whatever styles happen to be popular at the time. (How many times did he describe his music as "conscious" on the Bone-A-Fide album?) I understand the argument of "becoming all things to all people that I might win some" that some have used in defense of this kind of choice, still, somehow it just comes off as one having a lack of integrity, originality & authenticity

I have also struggled with the materialism that has been increasing in his music (though it seems that's the kind of criticism that has lead to so many "you hate on me because I'm succesful" songs).

Still, I respect T-bone for building relationships with people outside of the "Holy Hip Hop" sphere (Mr. Grim, Sway & Tech, KRS-One, Mack 10...) over the years. Apparently he has even lead several of them to a relationship with Christ. Praise God if it's true!

Does anybody else find it ironic that after working with T-bone, KRS-One also went on to work with the Tunnel Rats (who produced his album "Life"). There's no point reminding people about the T-bone/Tunnel Rats past if they don't know it already, but for those that do, isn't it ironic (don't you think smilies/cheesy.gif)?

For those hating on KRS-One and Mack 10, they did a collaboration with T-Bone cause he's good friends with both of them. Kirk Franklin is good friends with Cheryl "Salt" James, that is why she did a guest rap on God's Property's "Stomp." Also, I wanted to make one notification, Donnie of the former group Raze sang with T-Bone on "Raised in Harlem," not Nirva of the Diverse City band.
ONE !

Ok, I haven't heard this album but I heard the collab with KRS on his album Spiritual Minded. For me, that album was an eye opener for me spiritually wise. To go way out I'll say that Jesus was not "Christian" and he didn't differ between people weather they were jews and followers. God didn't invent belive-systems, people did! There is only ONE God and we are all part of that One.
Lke Armed Servant said. ...who are we to cast the first stone !?
If Jesus can forgive us all our sins, what right do we have to put anyone down! ..stay humble, stay true and love all that is without judgement. ..or as we truly should say:

ONE LOVE !!!

Confusion
written by Chosen, November 23, 2007
I've only heard one of T-Bone's tracks...and on that one track it seemed as if he was trying to appeal to the masses. Honestly though..he seems down with Christ, but I think he should loosen his grip on the culture just a little bit. Its good to hit up the streets..its our obligation! However, if we don't watch the words we use on tracks, people may mistake us for double-minded believers. I'll give T-Bone a fair chance with this album..just to get a glimpse of the fruit he has to offer.I only have one thing to say about the collaborations with secular artists....would we work with them on one of THEIR tracks? If for one track, they offered authentic fruit of the body of Christ, would we collaborate with them on their album? Would we consider that a gesture to the world saying..."Come to Christ!" It really is confusing, because its like..working with wordly people makes it seem like we abandon conviction. All we can do is PRAY for insight...

guesss thats why I dont listen to either of em. When I listen to 'materialistic/comprmising' lyrics, i get a knot in my stomach. sorry but theres nothing 'ministry' about being materialistic, or so-so. Jesus didnt compromise, Paul didnt compromise. That just confuses folks, not help em.

Whats really going on is not ministry, its when people get in the spotlight a little, they compromise to get a little more fame... then put it in a bucket of IM MINISTERING TO THESE CATS BY LETTING EM ON THE TRACK... wow. What about all the stumbling its causing, but who cares about that, as long as that 1 famous person is getting ministered to right? smilies/sad.gif

If I was a pastor, I wouldn't ask Cannibus or Mac-10 to come to the pulpit to give a message, so why should rap ministers do it?

I say that T-Bone's lyrics are kinda materialistics sometimes but if his goal is to minister to these kats then we cant't hate. If you are going to dis T-Bone than lets make it clear that there are other artist out ther that do the same thing. One example is Grits on there last album they had a song featuring Canibus. So what I'm saying is if there intention is to minister than stop dissing and start praying. Who are we to cast stones. Peace

when it comes to collabing with secular cats... my thing is this. Only do what God wants you to do... and don't try to merge your agenda with God's.
I havent heard the album, but if the lyrics are compromising, then there is a problem. Whether Chrisitan or not, if the message isn't consistent with the Word... then why would would want them to speak?
I am not a big fan of Christians giving the unsaved a script and saying READ IT... like trying to get the world to endorse Christ like LeBron endorses Nike.
The world and God are SEPERATE, they can only be one in one way, and that is thru the ONE.
Does it matter if they are Christian

Mack 10 is not Christian...

Neither is KRS-One.

Both gifted MC's - but God's goal is not theirs...

Hmmm... why did T-Bone collaborate with KRS?

I mean, the dude does have talent...

but he's not Christian.

And is Mack 10 Christian?

this album was a sad excuse for a greatest hits album, considering he only used his last 3
