5 Greatest Athletes in Christian Hip Hop

No two occupations may envy each other more.

“Athletes wanna be rappers, rappers wanna be athletes,” Lil Wayne once told ESPN.

When athletes and rappers act on this desire, results are often ugly.

This clip of Drake airballing a jump shot during warmups with Kentucky went viral last fall. The mocking would not have been as merciless had it not been for him saying on his Grammy-nominated song “O to 100 / The Catch Up,” “I been Steph Curry with the shot.”

Of course, Curry’s crossover attempt has caused just as much laughter.

While these stars failed to shine in the other’s lane, several Christian hip-hop artists have excelled in both worlds. On the heels of the 2015 NBA Finals, Rapzilla has counted down the greatest athletes in the subgenre.

Numerous artists were considered. Andy Mineo received an invitation to play football from Temple but declined to pursue music, according to Reach Records. Tedashii walked on to Baylor’s football team before an injury sidelined him.

Dre Murray played major minutes all four of his years on Southern Nazarene University’s basketball team. And if executives would have been eligible, Collision Records’ 6’6” CEO Adam Thomason also played basketball at Savannah College of Art and Design.

These names were late cuts, though. Here are the top five athletes in Christian hip-hop.
