J Monty Thinks it’s ‘Pointless’ to Sign with a Label

Rapper J Monty spoke to Rapzilla about SXSW to address his label situation and what he plans to do.

“I’m very interested in staying independent at the moment because the freedom it allows and my ability to answer to God, and God alone,” he said.

He said it’s tough to just follow when there are others “barking down your throat.”

J Monty has asked himself, “What can I label do for me that I can’t do for myself?” He said he mixes his own records, edits and films his videos.

He said major labels took care of distribution, but now you can do that digitally yourself.
