SXSW: Promise on new EP ‘TellAVision’, how it’s different from old music

Almost five years have passed since Toronto-based artist Promise released his last album, Awakening, which he said at SXSW 2016 sounds unlike his new music.

“[My upcoming EP is] very different from my old stuff, as I haven’t put out anything in a while,” Promise told Rapzilla, “so you can imagine the changes I’ve been through, the experiences I had. … For one, I’m barely rapping on it. I’m known mainly for my rapping. As of lately, I’ve been known for songwriting and stuff like that, but a lot of people don’t know that I’ve written more songs than raps over the years.”

This different sound is heard on Promise’s new single, “Right Now” featuring Crystal Nicole.

“Right Now” is a single from Promise’s EP, TellAVision, which releases this Friday, April 22.

“[TellAVision is] basically about the stories that media tells and the impressions that they make on the people in our youth, specifically.”

In addition to Crystal Nicole, TellAVision features Da’ T.R.U.T.H., No Malice, MC Jin, Montel Jordan, Shad and more. Buy the EP on iTunes.
