Interview – Fedel

Fedel, what’s the meaning behind the name? And how did you get it?
Well, the name Fedel came from the word fidelity which is a synonym for truth and defined as accuracy, faithfulness and loyalty. All things I wanted to embody as an artist and a man. I change the i to an e to make it my own…you know how we rappers do lol.

What do you want to accomplish with your brand new debut album “I Live”?
Well, imagine somebody hanging from a mountain that they have been climbing for days. The climbing and the hanging represents the cares of life. They look down and say if I give up and let go I don’t have to fight any more and they look up and they see God but they also see the process the fight. I Live is about encouraging people not to give up but to fight to get on the mountain to be closer to God and be all that God has called them to be. …..I LIVE!

Galatians 2:20 20 “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” I Live is about having faith in Jesus and knowing his love for you therefore I will not give up I will fight….I Live

How was the process to finish your debut album?
Well, hands down it was one of the hardest things I ever had to do being that we just found out my wife was pregnant lol. That was actually the thing that made me stop the excuses. We enjoyed the process thoroughly but we don’t know how I would have did this with a newborn lol. I must say completing the project was like a breakthrough. Over the years health issues have prevented me from completing a number of projects, so the fact that this project is completed is a true testimony of the goodness and grace of God. God gets the glory; they can’t take this one away from Him.

What’s one of your favorite songs and how did it come about?
It’s this track called “Keep On” that embodies what I Live is. I wrote most of the song with no paper. I felt the content so much that I memorized half the song before I wrote it down. The song is about some of the struggles that I hear on a regular basis. I see so many young people fall by the wayside because of struggles they go through. So many people are coming from broken homes and abusive situations and since I come from one I wanted to reach out to those people. I pray that this song will remind them to Keep On living and have faith in Christ and you’ll make it.

What’s your testimony?
My testimony is I grew up between the streets and the church. I’m a preacher’s kid whose father was physically and verbally abusive. I’m a product of a broken home. I’m a living witness that prayer does pay. The love of Jesus is the only reason I’m here today…..they need to check the album for the rest I LIVE lol

Photo by PhilipRood.com What does Christian Hip Hop need more and less of?
Well it seems like denominational doctrine is the new gospel with alot of people. Though I feel doctrine is important I think if were not careful it’ll just be another reason for division.

What more can we expect from you in the future?
We plan on doing a music video for “Walk it like I’m Changed” for the summer. I’m talking to DJ Sean Blu about doing a mixtape for a fall release. I’m apart of a business group name GIG that’s looking to make some moves in the Tulsa Area. I’m looking to start a Non – profit ministry group later this year thats built around meeting needs of my community. Also, I’ve been contacted about being a part of a couple tours we’ll see if that works out.
