In an encouraging display of affirmation and reconciliation, artist ThaKiddJopp used the UAC workshop to unashamedly apologize to Lecrae for the song that started extensive controversy withon Christian Hip Hop earlier this year. Jopp gained widespread attention for his "Open Letter to Lecrae" song, which acted as a critique of the Reach Records artist's current ministry philosophy. The mea culpa came during a workshop session today featuring Json, Sho Baraka, shai linne and Lecrae centered on differing philosophies of using art for the glory of God.
A rowdy, unashamed crew of believers convened in Atlanta for the kickoff night of the movement's first annual conference on Friday evening. All ethnic groups and cultural backgrounds were merged together to form a beautiful Gospel gumbo united under the name of Jesus Christ. When the 116 movement was unofficially inaugurated years ago, few anticipated a gathering so large in scope that it would draw urban and suburban Christ followers from across the country and even the world.
During a pulse-pounding performance at the inaugural Unashamed Conference 2013, Christian Hip Hop legend Da' T.R.U.T.H. announced that his new record label, Mixed Bag Records has signed TJ Pompeo (f.k.a. t.Jay). Pompeo, who delivered a fiery snippet of one of his new songs, was said to be one of a number of "artists" that the Philly emcee is recruiting for the new label. Da' T.R.U.T.H. has been hinting at starting his own collective for quite some time and will undoubtedly garner attention and expectation from all sides of the Christian Hip Hop movement.
