Christian rapper J. Kwest wins Emmy Award

J. Kwest, one half of the Chicago-based rap duo Verbal Kwest, is now an Emmy Award-winner.

He was part of another team, called SALT Project, that produced a film to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Billie Holiday’s song “Strange Fruit,” which protested the lynching of African Americans. The 2015 Lower Great Lakes Emmy Awards nominated the SALT Project in the Historical/Cultural category for its effort, and the team won.

Watch its film below featuring J. Kwest, whose real name is Julian DeShazier.
