Watch Lecrae’s acceptance speech after becoming first rapper to win Artist of the Year at Dove Awards

Tour kept Lecrae from attending the 2015 Dove Awards in October, but he still delivered an acceptance speech remotely for his historic win of Artist of the Year.

Nominated alongside Kari Jobe, Mercy Me, for KING & COUNTRY and Francesca Battistelli, Lecrae received the nod to become the first rapper to ever win the award in the Dove’s 47-year history.

Lecrae earned the honor with his performance on his latest album Anomaly, which also won Rap/Hip-Hop Album of the Year. Track No. 11 of Anomaly, “All I Need Is You,” won Rap/Hip-Hop Song of the Year, too.

The Dove Awards were not the first ceremony to affirm these records. While Anomaly had already won Rap/Hip-Hop CD of the Year at the Stellars and Top Christian Album at the Billboard Music Awards, “All I Need Is You” was nominated for Best Rap Performance at the Grammys, where Lecrae won another award for another song — Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song for “Messengers.”

Here is that speech.
