A South Carolina man claiming to be a "holy hip-hop artist" and a "youth minister" was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to molesting a 3-year-old while living with the child's mother last summer.

Damien Brown, 30, was allegedly in the city working on a hip-hop video in June 2007 and was invited to live in the woman's home, said court documents read during the sentencing in New Britain Superior Court. It wasn't specified in court if the woman was dating Brown when she allowed him to move in. Add a comment

DJ Morph's 5th mixtape entitled "International" which dropped this week. This project is a Hip Hop/Rap compilation of exclusive material with extraordinary artists from across the country. Which include artist like Japhia Life, 2Five, Big Nate, The Breax, G-Notes, Mahogany Jones, Young Joshua, Sho Baraka, R-Swift, G-Styles, k-Drama, Applejaxx, Rhema Soul, Braille, Khul Rhema & many more.

After listening to the album entirely, this is definately one of the hottest and best album (and mixtape) of the year! This album gets the first (and more to come) of "Rapzilla's Stamp of Must-Have Albums." I personally haven't heard a Christian Hip Hop album so fresh and hot like this in a while. Add a comment

Making it big in the music industry has never been an easy task. For every artist that exists on a recognizable scale there are tons that are still trying to get through and even more that have given up. For Toronto born emcee, Promise, the struggles of the game are all too familiar. Like most artists that make it (or don’t for that matter) this young rapper has his own story; however, his does not have an ending …yet. So what’s he doing wrong? Or should I ask, what’s he doing so right that he’s hasn’t blown up already?

Believin Stephen is happy to announce news of his project he's working on. It will be called the "Perseverance" Mixtape and will be dropping in 2009.

This will be a FREE mixtape and he's planning to post it on a few sites online (Rapzilla maybe?) as well as make some CD-R copies.  Believin Stephen is using the government's Stimulus check to help fund the mixtape.

There will be a number of features on this project which will be announced at a later date. Things to count on: he will be sharing his heart, some full length songs (not just a bunch of random verses), covering different facets of the idea of perseverance, and of course Christ being exalted.

Let’s “chop it up.” Let’s put a weighty matter on the table and dissect it until we can digest it, digest it until we possess it, and possess it so that we reflect it. Who talks like this; who welcomes this kind of thinking or this kind of activity? Paul said that “the mature do,” they embrace the idea of straining and agonizing to take hold of maturity (Phil 3:15). Welcome to my new syndicated column “The Chop Chop” where we advocate unpacking meatier matters of faith and culture for the benefit of our souls.

I'm doing my best to seize this moment when I don't have much to do. Well that's not the truth I have plenty to do but I don't feel so overwhelmed that I can't write.

I am hurting for the world. Not some generic "world" that people cant see or touch. But for the world around me. For my family, my community, for nations.

I was browsing through some blogs and I was reminded of a question that I get from alot of aspiring producers, and that is:

"Tony, how do I get my name out there?"

I do realize that there are producers that look up to me, and I take that with great honor and thanks to God, hoping that I can make the most God glorifying impact on them.  But I would like to answer every producer with a similar question in this one blog.

Earlier Wednesday, Mr Del's manager, Lawrence Haywood, contacted Memphisrap.com by phone and has confirmed that the Christian hip hop artist has indeed signed a multi-million dollar deal with Universal Distribution.

As reported Tuesday on MemphisRap.com, the former Three 6 Mafia member and Grammy nominee, Mr Del, inked a distri
bution deal with the company Universal Distribution which according to Haywood, the deal was closed mid July in link with Universal's "christian link" which is not necessarily a new Christian rap division of the company but it's a working link with Christian rap artists such as beginning now with Mr Del. Whether or not this will lead to more signings of Christian rap acts, only time can tell.

Hip-hop music has been blamed by the government and media as being a key factor for influencing violent youth culture in the UK. Christian rap artists are giving the genre of music a whole new influence.

Rap, garage and grime music are constantly accused of being a major factor in gun and knife crime on our UK streets - because of some of the lyrics and images that glamorise guns, gangs and a get rich quick lifestyle.

However, urban Christian hip-hop/grime music that contains messages of hope, faith and the philosophy of turning the other cheek is emerging on a big scale as being an effective tool used to engage with young people, and be part of the solution to the escalating violence in our inner cities.
