Throwback Thursday: LA Symphony – Broken Tape Decks

Today’s Throwback Thursday takes us back to LA Symphony’s “Broken Tape Decks” from the unreleased Call it What You Want in 2000.

Slated to released in 2001, the album would get pushed back by their record label Squint and never released other than bootlegs. It featured production by will.i.am, Prince Paul, and Mario C.

When the song came out it was everyone from videos game to major airplay on hip-hop radio.

According to Syntax Creative’s Timothy Trudeau, this album had everyone saying, “Christian hip-hop finally made it.” Unfortunately, it never saw the light of day.

He equates the success of that song to how people felt when “Lecrae went on ‘Jimmy Fallon’.”

LA Symphony would eventually move on to Gotee Records and Syntax Records.
