For today’s Throwback Thursday we are looking at Unity Klan’s 1999 album One Day and the song “All I Need” featuring production by Tonex.
Unity Klan consisted of Jaz, Big J and DG and the trio made music on 90s indie label Rescue Records.
At the time, U.K. was among the most successful Christian hip-hop acts at the time. They filled out the West Coast, G-Funk vibe that Christian music was missing at the time, giving listeners funky, poppy and singable hip-hop.
They also had Tonex do production on the record right before he blew up and became a key figure in Christian music in the early 2000s. On this track, in particular, he even lends his vocals throughout the song.
Other than Tonex’s feature and production, the song sampled the popular 80s synth-pop song, “Moments in Love” by Art of Noise.
